Few people know it, but omega-3 is essential to the long-term health of your heart, brain and central nervous system. In fact, the overall health benefits of a regular intake of omega 3 are disturbing misunderstood by 99% of the world's population and are connected to a variety of modern health care concerns including heart disease, skin problems, reproductive difficulties, mental health, arthritis and dry skin.
There are important reasons for this. Modern food processing techniques continue to strip a vital group of essential oils – omega-3 fatty acids – out of our food. And, as our bodies can not manufacture or replace the nutrients ourselves, we are unknowingly creating an imbalance in our systems that can lead to a range of disorders. The simple truth is that few people realize that they need omega 3 in their diet. Let alone are eating the right foods to supply it.
Fortunately, even if you are not getting enough omega 3 in your diet, there is a simple solution. You can take fish oil capsules. These dietary supplements give you the essential omega-3 nutrients your body needs to produce eicosanoids, which help it absorb calcium and other essential trace elements. In fact, it is recommended that you take omega 3 supplements with your daily vitamin supplements to enhance their overall effectiveness.
What if you simply eat more fish? That will definitely help. But it can be both costly and impractical. You would need to eat at least five grams of fish at least four times a week to get the necessary nutritional benefits. But not just any fish either. Omega 3 is found in cold water fish like herring, tuna, mackerel and salmon so they are best ones to eat. Unfortunately, many of those very same fish are caught in waters contaminated by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), a mixture of chemicals banned in many countries that have a habit of leaching into the soil and water and entering the food chain. PCBs are taken up by small organisms and fish in water. They are also digested by other animals that eat these aquatic animals as food. PCBs then accumulate in fish and marine mammals, reaching levels that are thousands of times higher than just in water.
After extensive research, I believe that the only cold water fish that you can reply on is not to be affected by PCBs, mercury and other contaminants is the Hoki fish. This fish is plentiful in the fresh, clean waters of New Zealand and is the major ingredient in the fish oil that I take myself and give to my own family. It is important to remember that the fish capsules you take contain both DHA and EPA fatty acids. These two nutrients give your body the greatest benefits. The capsules should also contain purified fish oil, so look out for the term "pharmaceutical grade fish oil" just to be sure.
Fish oil capsules from New Zealand's Hoki fish are, in my opinion, the best choice because Hoki is naturally high in EPA and DHA omega 3 fatty acids and only swim in uncontaminated water. When you look into buying these supplements, make sure that the manufacturer gives you the information you needs about the fish oil's purity, how the fish oil capsules are made, their EPA and DHA content and what fish they use to extract the oil. If they do not use Hoki fish, then I recommended against buying it.
The best fish oil is tasteless and odorless and will not leave your burping a fishy aftertaste. This is important too because many people do not like taking fish oil supplements simply for this reason. Good fish oil from fish like the Hoki also provide you with the essential fatty acid nutrients EPA and DHA, which are easier for your body to absorb than omega 3 extracted from plants (ALA) in flaxseed oil. Your body needs to convert the ALA into EPA and DHA, which is a step that is not necessary when you take good capsules.
