Ferrets are great pets because they're playful, active, curious and loving. However, there are a few things that you should consider before you buy a ferret because taking care of a one is not an easy job.
Ferrets are fantastic pets for animal lovers but are the kind of pets that need your attention and attention takes time. Although ferrets are naturally quiet, friendly, inquisitive, intelligent, and make good companions, at times they may be extremely active and may be hard to handle so they do require supervision. Ferrets may not need 24-hour care however, because like other pets such as dogs and cats, they are able to entertain themselves. But like dogs and cats, their mental and physical health depends on the attention and interaction that you give them so activities are important.
One such interactive activity would be bathing. When giving your ferret a bath, make sure that you use warm water. Bathing your ferret can either be done in the sink, bathtub, or even the use of a basin will do. Similar to cats, ferrets are not used to water and getting it wet may startle it so be sure to introduce it into the water slowly. A good way to do this would be to hold the ferret firmly around the neck. Once the ferret is wet, proceed to shampoo the whole body. After rinsing thoroughly, make sure to dry the ferret well. This can be done by wrapping a towel around it to remove the excess water. In addition, you can also bathe ferrets in flea baths but be careful not allow the flea bath mixture to enter the ferrets eyes or ears or this could cause serious damage to their health.
Since ferrets be different from the usual pets such as dogs, birds or cats, it is not recommended for very small children. If you have children in your household, it's important that the children are supervised by an adult when they are playing with the ferret and even closer supervision is required around infants.
Ferrets, being natural hunters, can not get along with other very small pets so if you have pets such as hamsters, lizards, birds and the like at home or considering adding different pets to your home, a ferret would not be recommended to have as a pet. Dogs and cats are an exception, however, since ferrets can usually be traced to socialize with them.
