Dental Hygiene – First Area to Check for Halitosis

[ad_1]

Many people suffer from bad breath, also known as halitosis. Often it is assumed the cause of the halitosis is the particular food that the person consumes. While eating a particular food such as garlic obviously explains temporary bad breath, a chronic condition indicates other causes. A good first place to look is dental hygiene.

To combat halitosis …

Brush your teeth after you eat.

This easy when at home. It is just as easy to carry a small toothbrush with you during the day or store one at your desk.

Floss Regularly

Flossing removes hard to reach and persistent food particles. It is vital to floss at least once per day. Twice is even better. Once you get in the habit of flossing, you'll find it goes quite quickly.

Drink Plenty of Water

The benefits of drinking water throughout the day extend beyond general health. Water is a good solvent and helps to clean your mouth.

Brush Your Tongue

This is a step often overlooked by many people. It removes dead cells, food particles and bacteria. It is best to use a sort bristled brush and do at least 20 strokes.

Replace Your Toothbrush

It is a good practice to replace your toothbrush once a month. A toothbrush can collect bacteria and the bristles become dull. A fresh toothbrush is much more effective.

It is always a good idea to schedule regular check ups with your dentists. This allows your dentist to spot problems while they are small and easy to correct. Maintaining good hygiene is not only something that promotes healthy teeth, it is often an effective way to avoid halitosis.
