Learn How to Treat Dandruff
In order to learn how to treat dandruff you need to determine what type of dandruff you have. There are two types of dandruff, pityriasis-capitis and seborrhea dermatitis. Seborrhea dermatitis is a thick, oily dandruff that can look scaly and crusted. This occurs when the scalp is very greasy. Using anti-dandruff shampoos or other home remedies can treat mild cases of this type of dandruff. However any other cases that are more extreme will need medical care.
Pityriasis-capitas consist of white dry flakes that fall from the scalp and is due to dry skin cells. The amount of stress and diet of the individual can affect this kind of dandruff. There are many anti-dandruff products available that include, shampoos, oils, lotions and creams.
It is possible to treat your dandruff by using some home remedies. Hot oil therapy is a popular treatment as hot oil is massaged into the scalp before going to bed. The next morning you then rinse your hair with a mixture of lemon juice and vinegar, then wash with shampoo. To improve the moisture of your scalp you can take a steam, bath and then massage in hot oil.
It is possible to add nourishment to your scalp by using a rinse made of tea leaves steeped in limewater. Besides treating dandruff it also adds a lot of shine to your hair. Every few days you can switch from using shampoo and rub baking soda into your scalp and hair. This will loosen the dead skin on your scalp. After several weeks of this the dandruff will go away.
Some additional treatments include lathering your hair twice with anti dandruff shampoo and gently massaging your scalp when in the shower to loose flakes and dandruff. If you find that anti-dandruff products are drying out your hair you can alternate them with regular hair products.
