Roborovskii or often called Robo hamsters are approximately 2 inches in length when full grown and weigh in around half to three quarters of an ounce!

When purchasing supplies for your pet, keep in mind their small size. Here are some tips when purchasing supplies:

  • A 10 gallon aquarium, with a breathable lid, can make a suitable home for one or two
  • If you use a cage with bars, make sure the bars are close together, think mouse size.
  • Supply a exercise wheel that is suited to their size, without rungs. This gives them opportunity for required exercise
  • Provide your pet each with a hide house within their cage
  • Robo hamsters enjoy having baths, and not the kind with water! A special type of sand bath placed in a container, that is easy for them to access and move / roll about in. This helps them clean their coat of oil.
  • Wooden chew toys are important as their teeth continue growing through their lives. By providing unstained and untreated wood gives allows them to gnaw down their teeth. If teeth become overgrown, their health can become in danger as they can not access food. Consult your Vet for treatment.
  • Avoid plastic balls. It may be fun to watch them inside, however, your pet can become panicked inside and cause their stress level to increase and also can become overheated.
  • A burrowing animal by nature, they require bedding material. If you scatter about 2 inches all over the bottom of their home, they will move it about to suit themselves. Avoid cedar or pine based bedding as it can make your pet ill.
  • A nutritious supply of food is important to your pets health and life span. Provide pellets especially made for dwarf hamsters and a fresh water supply.
  • Occasional small trees of bird seeds or insects or meal worms purchased from the pet store
  • Small amount of raw vegetable occasionally
  • Fresh clean water access. A sipper bottle is ideal as it is difficult to knock over

Being a responsible pet owner requires planning, commitment to your pet and providing the right supplies. It’s best to research your pets needs and understand the commitment involved before you decide to acquire one.
