Taking care of your dwarf hamster is not rocket science. It's not hard, not at all. It just requires dedication. Your dwarf hamster will have just like a baby. When it gets sick, it will let you know. When he / she is happy, they will let you know. And when they are sad they will let you know. The point is, you have to treat them like the babies they are and they will return the favor in their own little grateful way. They need three things from you. Those three things are:
1. Proper Nutrition – Just like you would not give your son or daughter a bunch of junk food everyday. You can not give your dwarf hamster junk food everyday. They must have a well balanced diet that includes veggies and the like for them to survive. Too many sweets and you run the risk of them developing diabetes … just like your human kids!
2. Playful Interaction – You have to play with your brand new hamster. I know that this will take some time because, you do not know him / her, and he / she does not know you. But, in time, this will all change. Just like your human kids, the only way to know them is to play with them. You can not expect them to respect you if you leave them alone to their own devices, can you? (And you wonder why the hamster is always trying to bite you … rookie.)
3. Clean Drinking Water – Clean drinking water is just as important to a dwarf hamster as it is to you. Do not assume that because they are animals that they can magically digest old stagnant water and their little stomachs can stand it. Could your stomach stand it? I did not think so. Make sure that you change their water at the very least, once a week.
These are some of the most basic things that your brand new dwarf hamster needs to survive in this new environment that you have made. All of these basic steps will insure that your new "baby" will live a healthy and happy life.
