I would say about 90% of my clients come to me with the goal of trying to fit into smaller clothes by a certain date. It is not just a little black dress, especially if you're a guy, it could be a new pair of jeans or a suit for your new job. I use the following information to help all my clients lose body fat and get into their new smaller clothes.
Cut the junk from your diet
This is a simple one. I can guarantee you that you definitely will not fit into your clothes by eating junk food. This includes fast food, cakes, biscuits, crisps and chips, fries etc. Basically anything that has been processed. Cut this out and you will have not only given your fat loss efforts a major boost, your health will get a lot better too.
Cut out sugary and starchy carbohydrates
The first thing I do is ask my clients to cut out sugary and starchy foods eg white potatoes, rice, pasta and breads. This alone does wonders for kick starting your fat loss. But will not I get hungry? I hear you ask. Fill up on more vegetables, nuts, seeds, fruits, meats, fish and pulses. Starchy carbohydrates cause bloating and water retention. I recently lost 5 kg in two weeks to make the weight for my power lifting competition, just by cutting out the above starchy foods.
Exercise at least 3 times a week, HARD
You will have to exercise. I mean really exercise, not just turn up to the gym and pretend that you have done something. There should be a mix of weight training and circuits. Save your energy and time by staying off the hamster wheel (treadmill) unless you are doing high intensity interval training (HIIT) for a max of about 10 minutes. Get yourself a personal trainer if you find it hard to motivate yourself or are unable to push yourself out of your comfort zone
Get plenty of sleep
Sleep is the time for the body to repair itself. Your body produces a big spike of growth hormone within the first 30 minutes of shutting your eyes. Growth hormone helps repair muscle tissue, tendons and ligaments and help reduce body fat.
Reduce your stressful situations
Stress produces a hormone in the body called cortisol. This can have a catabolic effect on the body (break down of muscle tissue), which will completely reduce the body's metabolic rate causing the body to burn fewer calories at rest. This in turn allows the body to store more body fat.
Drink plenty of water
Drinking plenty of water will help keep the liver functioning properly. One of the jobs of the liver is to help convert body fat into energy. If the body is dehydrated, the liver has to help the kidneys out, which need water to work properly. If the liver is helping the kidneys out, then is not able to focus on its job of metabolizing body fat. Drink more water, 2-3 liters for a woman and 3-4 liters for a man, and get your body working more efficiently.
As you can see these are not new innovative solutions. These ideas have been around for decades and have been used by millions of people, myself included to help get rid of body fat and keep it off. It takes a bit of dedication, but the results you will see will be amazing. It will improve you health and make you feel better and give you more energy, which at the end of the day is a pretty good thing to have. You will also get into those new clothes, not to mention your little black dress.
