Being able to take a leave of absence at work can be very handy. In this economy, you do not want to lose or walk away from a paying position just because you need an extended period of time off. Calling out repeatedly due to things coming up in your life will end up getting you fired if you are not careful. This is where a leave of absence can come in very handy.
There are many legitimate reasons to take a leave of absence at work. You may find your life falling into one of these categories. If so you will want to take the necessary steps to make sure that you can get the time off from your company while still having a position to come back to when you are ready.
Reason One
Taking care of a sick relative. Many people will try to care for a sick relative while still going into their job every day. This can lead to time and attendance issues that may negatively reflect on your record. It could even lead to you being let go. You can ask your employer for a leave of absence for this reason. Depending on who the relative is, you may even qualify to take the time off under the family leave act.
Reason Two
Your own health is something that needs to be looked at and taken care of. When health issues pop up, you need to be able to take care of them. For many, they put going in and getting paid above their own health. Do not do this. You need to be able to go to the doctors and get the rest that your body needs in order to heal yourself. Take the time off and take care of yourself.
Reason Three
Raising your family should come before money. If you can make ends meet and pay the bills, you may want to take a leave of absence for a little while when your children are born. You may get a few weeks when the baby is first born, but if you want more time with the little one then you are going to need to take a leave of absence at work.
