Roundworms and Tapeworms In Cats – Symptoms and Treatments

One of the biggest concerns for cat lovers and cat owners is the formation of worms in cats. These worms include roundworms, tapeworms, hookworms and several others. This article is a brief guide to help you understand the different symptoms and possible treatment methods for these worms found in cats. These are not only found in street cats but also in domestic cats – – so beware!

Roundworms in Cats

These look like spaghetti strands and can be seen in its feces and even vomit. Although, they are found in colors such as white and yellow but at times they may not have any color and therefore may not be easily visible.

They are transferred to them either by birth or through the milk of the mother cat. Most cats also get them through eating the eggs found in contaminated places.

Cats with roundworms may have constant diarrhea and vomiting. Their stool is in dark color and if the worms increase too much in number, then a blockage of intestine may also occur.

The best treatment for these worms is pyrantel pamoate.

Tapeworms in Cats

These look like rice grains and are either white or off-white in color. These worms can be transferred to them through ingesting an infected flea or from eating raw meet of rabbit, rat or any rodent.

Infected cats may feel itching in the anal and to satisfify their itching they may rub themselves on hard surfaces, so you may know what your cat is up to.

The best prevention is to keep them away from infected flea because that is how it spreads. For treatment, medicines such as Praziquantel and Epsiprantel are commonly used.
