Nutritional Needs
It has been said that you are what you eat. Well this is true not just for humans but for dwarf hamsters as well. Feeding them is the pinnacle step in providing proper dwarf hamster care and should be treated seriously. These creatures will usually eat anything you feed them, so it is important that you do not allow them to eat junk food such as fried foods, candy, chocolate, or anything with lots of sugar. Keep their diet between non-citrus fruits and vegetables. Cut their food into small enough pieces that your pet can eat easily. You can go to your local pet store and find commercially made mixes that can sometimes be beneficial to the health of your new pet. Water
Water is an essential ingredient in proper dwarf hamster care and you should always keep your pet hydrated at all times. They will constantly need water to keep them healthy and a water bottle is the best way to provide it to them. Using a bowl of water is not recommended because your pet can spill the water and you will have to keep refilling it and cleaning out their cage to prevent any other problems.
Exercise Wheel
As stated before your pet needs to get their daily dose of exercise not only to stay healthy but to also prevent them from getting fat. They are natural runners so getting them to run inside of the wheel should not be a problem. Sometimes placing PVC pipes inside of their home can be a great way to simulate their original environment which is full of many burrows.
