Infertility is when a man and a woman can not get pregnant; especially after trying for six months and not having any success. Infertility can be a common problem for some couples.
There are several reasons why men are infertile such as if a man's veins on his testicles are too large. The intense heat in the testicles affects the sperm. Also, if a man has an injury to his testicles, this can also affect his sperm. In addition, cystic fibrosis is another reason why some men are infertile.
In addition, there are certain risks that increase infertility in men and they are: using drugs, drinking too much alcohol, smoking cigarettes, being around pesticides and lead, certain health problems such as mumps or a kidney disease, certain medicines, radiation for cancer and becoming older.
For women there are certain causes of infertility such as irregular menstrual cycles and having blocked Fallopian tubes. Other causes of infertility for women are: physical problems with the uterus, uterine fibroids and muscle on the walls of the uterus.
It is important to note that there are other reasons that increase a woman's risk of infertility such as getting older, having an inadequate diet, being under or over weight, exercising too much, smoking or drinking and having hormonal changes.
Infertility problems are also found while giving the man and woman a physical exam and by exploring the health and sexual backgrounds of both partners. Also, some doctors will test the man's semen by looking at the shape and movement of the sperm. For a woman, the doctor will first check if a woman is ovulating each month. This can be completed by a woman checking her ovulation at home or it can be done with blood tests in the doctor's office.
In women, the first step is to find out if she is ovulating each month. There are a few ways to do this. A woman can track her ovulation at home by following certain prescribed procedures from her doctor or by having other tests done such as having an x-ray of the uterus and Fallopian tubes done or by having a Laparoscopy.
Seeking the cause of infertility can sometimes be stressful and long and that is because of the tests that need to be performed in order to find the root cause of the infertility problem. However, with determination and altering some lifestyle habits, fertility can be achieved.
