I got on the treadmill today. My girlfriend and I had talked about doing the spin class, but I was just too uncomfortable on that stationary bike. The problem, is that my gut was hitting my legs whenever I pedaled, so it was very uncomfortable.
That's another way to know that you're fat. When your gut hits your stomach when you're riding a bike.
Anyways, I got off the bike, and went over to the treadmill and did the reminder of my workout on the treadmill. Have I mentioned that I hate running on a treadmill? I feel like a hamster, running yet going nowhere. I really do not see how some people can just run on one of these contraptions everyday.
Alas, I'd rather be on trail than running on a treadmill.
I have to confess that my favorite thing about the treadmills at the YMCA, is that they are all front row to the TV sets. The YMCA has these really nice Sony plasma TVs which make time go by a lot faster, as long as there's something worth watching on.
From the hamster belt I was on, I had my choice between Kurt Russell in "Escape from LA" on one TV, or Fox News on the other. Luckily, they were on alternating commercial schedules, so I watched a bit of both. If I have to be on a treadmill, this is the way to go. I think the only thing that could've made it better, is if I had the remote control to the TVs.
I only did 1.75 miles, on the manual settings, instead of on one of the pre-programmed settings. I felt good, like I'm starting to get into shape.
Speaking of beer, does anyone know of a good running trail out here in Hays County Texas?
I weighed myself, and I have not yet lost a pound, but my clothes feel and fit better. It's a start along my journey to an ultra marathon. I'm documenting my journey over on my blog at fattrailrunner.com
