At one point or another, we’re all going to need some medication prescribed by a doctor. After this inevitability, we then have to go to a pharmacy (or if we’re lucky enough, our doctors forward the prescription over) and wait for the medication to be ready. While going to a chain retailer may get you lower prices, you probably don’t expect too much customer service. Also, depending on who you ask, you’re likely to get different answers for the same questions at the big chains. Today, people seem to be split: those who prefer the one-on-one service offered by mom and pop shops and those who value their money. While both have advantages, local stores offer more than the big chains ever could.
Larger Variety
Sometimes specialized products are needed for a situation. Maybe you need a one CC syringe to feed a baby animal; a chain pharmacy likely won’t carry these. Getting to be more complex, perhaps you’re looking for a specialized toilet seat to accommodate a painful injury or disease. A local shop seems to have it all. For those who prefer natural medication, such as oils, many local drugstores carry these as well to accommodate all customers.
Specialized Attention
If you’re anything like me, you’re not afraid to ask questions – in fact, you need to ask questions. Many of the pharmacists at large chain retailers act as though they are too busy to answer a string of questions. They often seem to get irritated and repeat themselves, as if you had a hard time understanding them. You wind up walking away even more confused and aggravated than you were before. At your local drugstore, chances are this won’t happen. They are willing to sit down with you and answer your questions and calm your fears. Do you take multiple medications and are worried about how they’ll react together? Don’t worry, the experts will be there to explain to you how the medications interact in medical terms and layman’s terms.
Great Atmosphere
Do you ever feel forced into buying products at chains? That’s because they set up the aisles in such a manner where you’re tempted every step you make. At a local drugstore, while they need your business, they aren’t silently pushy. You’re surrounded by products, usually in a quiet environment with no pressure to buy anything. The best part is – you can usually find an employee who’s actually happy to help you.
Instead of wasting your time and money getting frustrated and confused at a big chain pharmacy, why not try out your local one? With friendly service, specialized attention, expertise for miles, and a no-pressure atmosphere, why would you trust your health and your family’s health anywhere else?
