Having a vegetable garden is a lot of fun and, if you care for it well, it can easily feed your family. In fact, you're likely to wind up with more vegetables than you can use in a season. So, what do you do with them? Luckily, there are a lot of options.
First of all, you can save them for the off season by cannning or freezing many of them. You can even cook them into soups and stews and freeze those for a cold winter day. There's nothing like hot soup made out of fresh garden vegetables to cut a chill, after all.
Another thing you could do is set up a weekend vegetable stand. You could make a little money and supply a bunch of people in your area with fresh vegetables that their families can enjoy, just as yours does.
If you really enjoy vegetable gardening, you could see about donating to local charities and shelters or even start a community vegetable garden project in your spare time. That could be rewarding for you and for the entire community, too.
The possibilities do not end there, though. If you have pets, like rabbits or hamsters, they might enjoy eating some of the fresh vegetables. You could even use some leftovers to feed the wildlife in your back yard. Although, you might want to put the feeding station well away from the vegetable garden. That way, you can enjoy nature and protect your plants. You could even compost some of your leftover vegetables and use them for fertilizer for your plants. So, none of your vegetables ever have to go to waste.
