If you were to have pets at home, would you choose chickens? People usually get a dog, cat, hamster, parrot, gold fish etc as pets but getting chickens as pets? I had a good laugh when my husband suggested we raise some chickens in our home backyard. I thought he was being silly. But after some careful thought, keeping bantams as pets actually makes sense. Other household pets will tend to incur expenses. We have to feed, clean and groom them which will cost us money and we do not get much in return. One benefit of keeping chickens is the fresh organic eggs that they produce. By raising chicken at home, it will save us money rather than cost us money.
Okay, keeping chickens makes economic sense. Since the bantams are kept in the backyard, they are exposed to all sort of predators such as cats, dogs, large rats, raccoon etc. One way of keeping them safe is by building a coop for them to live in. If you are good with hand tools, you can build a chicken housing. What you need is a set of good chicken coop plans.
Why do we need a chicken coop design blueprint? So we will be able to make a nice, practical and sturdy coop! If you start a Do It Yourself (DIY) project without a well planned out direction, the final exit will not be what you expected. You can begin hammering wooden planks together but after a while, you will notice some of the sections do not fit. You may also run out of building material because you did not count how much wood that you will need. All this unnecessary setbacks can be avoided simply by getting a set of chicken coop plans.
