Do Not Forget To Ask Your GYN These Questions

It is very important that women visit their GYNecologist doctor. A GYN visit will typically include a pap smear testing, breast exams, and or pelvic exams. Most GYNecologists want to provide their patients with the best care, so they would be happy to answer your questions. When you visit your doctor, ask him or her the following questions. Your GYNecologist can answer these questions for you and give you advice when you need it.

You should ask your doctor how you can get tested for sexual related diseases if you are having sex. Most doctors enjoy educating their patients and they want to keep women safe and healthy. Your healthcare professional can also educate you about sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, genital warts, pelvic infections and others.

Ask your GYN about contraceptives. If you are only using condoms when you have sex, you should think about getting some birth control pills or finding a new contraceptive backup. If the pill is causing side effects for you, ask your GYNecologist if he can give you a different formulation. If you forget to take the pill often, maybe you should consider using the contraception patch. Talk to your doctor and find out what options you have.

If your periods are irregular, talk to your doctor about it. However, keep in mind that it is normal for a female's cycle to fluctuate sometimes. Stress and changes with one's diet or exercise can affect a woman's cycle. If a woman's period is very light, it could be a symptom of an infection, cancer, thyroid disease, or a hormonal disorder. It could also be a symptom of anorexia. Sometimes these symptoms do not mean anything, but you should check with your doctor to be sure.

If you have a low libido, you should talk to your doctor about it. This can happen when women take certain medications such as antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications. Sometimes it happens when women take birth control pills. Low libido can also be caused by pain during sex. If your GYNecologist can not find the cause of your problem, he may recommend that you visit a sex therapist. Your GYNecologist can refer you to a specialist.

When you get a pap smear or pelvic exam, make sure you do not forget to ask about your test results. Your doctor should have your results in a few days or so. You may have to stop by your doctor's office to pick up the results of your tests.

If you are a smoker, find out how smoking affects your sexual and reproductive health. If you smoke, you are not a good candidate for birth control pills because of the increased risk of blood clots, stroke, and heart attack. Smoking also increases the risk of cervical cancer and it decrements fertility. So, make sure you ask these questions when you visit your doctor. You will live healthier and feel better if you do.
