Another common disease that your hamster can encounter is what we call as Proliferative Ileitis, commonly known as wet tail. If your pet gets this disease, you'll notice that it's somehow lethargic, its eyes are sunken and its anal area is soiled. Whenever you see these signs in your hamster be sure to contact your vet. Death commonly occurs within the first 48 hours after the bacteria have contracted the disease. More often than not, veterinarians provide hamsters with antibiotics and fluid replacements when this happens.
The teeth of your hamsters are very important so they can eat foods, get nutrients and live healthy. However, there are times that you have to clip them as their teeth grow continuously. You can let your small pet chew woods to help your hamster keep its teeth at an appropriate length. In case you're not confident clipping our pet's teeth, better as for a vet to show you so you can do it in the future. Just be certain that you or someone can stabilize your hamster to avoid cutting its tongue or injuring its mouth.
